today is the 29th of october.
on this day last year i had a swim meet
and flew to new york
and cried for 3,000 miles.

today i slept, and did homework
and walked to the store
and bought a dozen yellow roses
that are as bright as the sun
and i cried for 12 blocks.

and we made dinner
but didnt have meatballs
and lit a candle
and cried through brocoli and chicken.

last night i watched my sister laura preform in a play
and bow at the end
and i clapped because she is beautiful and growing up
this afternoon i watched my sister kim play in two basketball games
and she fouled out in the first and twisted her ankle in the second
and i cheered because she is so strong and getting older every day.

i cry in the fall when leaves drop from the trees
and winter when everything goes cold
but i smile in the spring when new grass grows
and the summer when waves crash on shores like door-knockers
but time always knocks loudest anyway
